Integrated Pest Management (IPM)
Because of the comprehensive nature of our program, we can employ safe and humane methods of exclusion which are good for you, the environment, and the pests that have invaded your space. We remain committed to helping you meet the requirements of your customers and keep within the boundaries of any governmental regulations and only resort to more significant methods if the situation warrants it.
There are 6 elements to our IPMS. While one could view them as individual steps, Greenshield recognizes that each element cannot be seen as mutually exclusive. We are always revisiting each element to ensure they are appropriate for your business and because of the cyclical nature of pests throughout the year, we know that the environment is always changing and our methods must remain vigilant and dynamic as well.
The six elements of Greenshield’s Integrated Pest Management Solutions
Thresholds – A threshold is the point at which pest populations or environmental conditions require action to be taken. The threshold is established mutually by the Greenshield technician and Greenshield client. Factors such as the health and safety of employees or customers, the potential damage caused by pests, or future liabilities to your employees, guests, and the environment are used to develop thresholds. These levels are then used as the basis of future communications and actions. A good plan always starts with a strong base.
Inspection – A comprehensive inspection and an assessment are completed at every facility to identify signs of current and potential pest activity. These signs include sanitation issues, harbourage areas, entry points, food/ water sources, and structural deficiencies. All results of inspection are reviewed with clients in detail and action plans are then developed.
Monitor and Identify Pests – IPMSs monitor for early pest signs and develop appropriate actions for control. Pest identification is key to understanding the overall problem and controls. Non-chemical methods of control are the first choice for any IPMS to reduce the risk of damage and the only way to know which method to use is to fully understand what you are dealing with.
Education/ Prevention – The common sense aspect of pest management is that avoiding a pest infestation is always better than having to control an established pest presence. Prevention is an integral part of any IPMS and Greenshield Pest Control develops its IPMSs with this in mind. Educating clients and their teams is a specialty of Greenshield Pest Control. Prevention is made easier by offering training and communication sessions to our clients. Prevention may include standard baits and traps, affecting your supply chain before your inputs come to your facility, or even a sanitation program for your facility.
Control – The last line of defense. Once identification and thresholds indicate that pest control is required, all methods of control are evaluated to ensure that safe, effective treatments are provided. Greenshield Pest Control’s team of certified technicians are prepared with the latest techniques and technology in controlling pests which meet all Pest Management Program standards.
Documentation – A critical step that is easy to be lost in any pest management program, documenting and communicating inspection findings and control methods. Greenshield Pest Control has developed bullet-proof methods to record and review all aspects of the IPMS. With the proper feedback, our clients meet their internal and external requirements and can make proper decisions.
No IPMS will work properly if it isn’t constantly monitored and updated. Pests can become immune to certain methods of exclusion or migrate to new locations within your facility. It is important that we establish a plan that is rigid enough to work consistently, but dynamic enough to respond to changes in your environment.
