Small Fly Program

An infestation of flies can overtake a business in only a few days. The early stage of maggots are certainly unsavoury, but as they age and morph, flies and other insects become more damaging as they transmit diseases like salmonella, cholera, and dysentery. A business needs to recognize the costs associated with these pests that can negatively affect the health of your employees, clients, and your reputation.

Greenshield technicians use a mix of single use and multi-use equipment and processes to control an infestation and establish an insect free environment. Our program is designed to get to the hidden places where small flies live.

Fruit Flies

The Fruit Fly requires moist environments. The development of this species offspring is extremely dependant on temperature and the adults can not withstand colder temperatures. In temperate climates these species seek out shelter in colder winter months in fruit cellars, and other structures with a large supply of food. i.e. grocery stores, markets, restaurants and places where food is prepared commercially.

House Flies

House flies start with small populations in the spring which grow over the summer. They can indicate the presence of unsanitary conditions or carrion and carry as many as 65 serious and potentially fatal diseases. The infestation of these flies is crucial in business settings such as restaurants, long term care facilities as well as hotels and any other customer service situation.

Phorid Flies

Phorid flies are common in commercial facilities where food is prepared and served, but they are also a key pest in food warehouses, hospitals and long term care facilities. Because these flies frequent unsanitary conditions, they are a potential health concern when they occur in food facilities and hospitals. Phorid fly larvae have been found in the open wounds of patients in nursing homes and hospitals.

Drain (Moth) Flies

Drain flies, also known as sewage flies, like to lay their eggs in wet organic matter. Organic matter can typically be found in clogged and greasy drain pipes in kitchens and bathrooms, storm drains, moist compost, and septic tanks. Adult drain flies feed on decomposing organic matter and sewage. Often their presence is warning of unsanitary conditions.

Bluebottle Flies

Bottle flies are one of the first insects to reach a dead animal, and the sudden appearance of dozens of them within a building signals a dead rodent, bird or other animal in the wall, ceiling, attic or crawl space. They breed in garbage containers, dumpsters and decaying vegetative matter. They are attracted to buildings by food odors and also warm or cool air currents coming through cracks around doors and windows.

We look to determine, what kind of flies you are dealing with and then we look for origin of the infestation itself and for structural deficiencies that lead to its continued existence.

Gathering information, the information gathered from you is beneficial to the technician being able to focus his/her attention on the key areas and situations specific to your experiences and needs.

A physical assessment is used to diagnose the existing fly populations, specific identification of fly species, fly breeding sites, sources of food and water as well as identifying Sanitation conditions that may be the contributing factor to the infestation.
The technician will inspect for any existing and potential Fly entry points that the invaders have been using or could use to gain access. Greenshield’s Pest Technicians are licensed, experienced and educated in identifying these areas of entry. Including potentially imported points of entry of eggs and larvae.
